New York Dolls – new release/Tower signing

Get your New York Dolls fix this week!

David Johansen, Syl Sylvain and Co. are busting out for the new CD “One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This“. The band appeared on Conan O’ Brien last week (see a clip here) and will appear Tuesday at Tower Records (4th & Broadway) in NYC for a short set.

Roadrunner Records is offering up a listen to four songs from the new CD. Early reviews so far seem to be generally favorable, but listening through, I’d have hoped for a few more ragged rockers to make this CD a must-have.

The opening track “Dance Like a Monkey” sets a fun, frantic tone with its Bo Diddley beat, “oooh-oooh-ooo-ooh-ooohs” and short but sweet guitar lead. Nice harmonies on other numbers (like “Dancing on the Lip of a Volcano”), too. But two of the preview tracks are way too mid-tempo-ey for me (“I Ain’t Got Nothin'”, “Take a Look at My Good Looks”).
