The Replacements – Robyn Hitchcock

Today, I’m gonna treat you to a couple of rare live tracks from a show by The Replacements on July 1, 1985 at 7th St. Entry/First Avenue in Minneapolis.

Here, the Replacements cover a couple of songs from Robyn HitchcockThe Man Who Invented Himself and I Wanna Destroy You. Paul Westerberg sings the first one, but it sounds like a fan is singing ‘Destroy’; the vocals are mess, but the band keeps rockin’ it out…

I saw the Replacements a ton of times between 1981-1984, but in early 1985, I moved far away physically from any sort of rock club scene. So I missed the Mats as they became more popular in the late 80s. I wasn’t able to realize their ragged beauty once more until their near end, with a pair of insanely fantastic shows at London’s Marquee Club in April 1991. (If anyone can point me to a torrent of either of these shows (April 15/16), I’d appreciate it mucho baby. Leave it in the comments.

Anyway, enjoy, and have a great weekend…
