Sad to hear the news of IRS Records founder Ian Copeland’s passing from cancer.
Brothers Copeland – Ian, Stewart, Miles
Without Ian and brother Miles, there would be no thriving early 80s punk/new wave club circuit that opened the doors for struggling young bands. Brothers Copeland are credited with helping open up a tour route for bands in the south, midwest and east, and later the west coast. That helped R.E.M, Squeeze, the Police, the Fleshtones and many other bands that ended up on IRS Records.
Their time has passed, of course, but Copeland’s efforts helped fuel much of what we take for granted in today’s indie-alternative live show scene.
