I just finished Caught Stealing, the debut novel by Charlie Huston. It’s a few years old, and the first in a trilogy featuring a, GAAAAAAAAASSSSP!!!, flawed hero. I’m always in search of readable crime fiction, and this certainly qualified. It moved fast with absurd circumstances far outside of reality, and was somewhat funny. In short, what I like in crime fiction. When I latch onto a good writer, I always want to know some history. With Huston, this need bit me in the ass. From his site, you will quickly gather that he is involuntarily a goofball self-parody. Still, it was a good read and I will blow through the two follow-ups. However, despite my sometimes detrimental interest in genre fiction, you can have his vampire series.
