In the “on the bright side” category: I did get to spend some extra time with the kids during the power outage. Esther and I went to the park over the weekend, played on the swings and saw the ducks, for instance. She’s been talking about our morning together ever since and asking, in her fractured/still-learning-English syntax, when we can go back (“Maybe Esther…and daddy…can go…see duckies…and go ‘whee!’ soon?”)
All in all, though, the main lesson I learned is that we are willing slaves to modern convenience. We’d make terrible Frontier House cast members. Back to nature? Not us, thanks; we’ll take central A/C and kitchen disposals.
