A link to JA Konrath’s blog, A Newbie’s Guide to Publishing, already appears to the left of these words as one of my Favorite Places. Always interesting and amazingly altruistic (that this guy finds time to write and, basically, offer free lessons in his writer-friendly blog is pretty impressive), Konrath’s post today is especially worthy of your attention.
It’s an exercise and it’s a contest. The exercise, geared toward helping writers “appreciate the value of every word,” is quick and painless and — a word sometimes not associated with writing — fun. The prize is an advance reading copy of Konrath’s new novel, Rusty Nail.
Here’s my entry, a little 69-word ditty I call “Grounds for Divorce”:
